EV charger rebates

As of October 5, 2026, the federal home charger tax credit (section 30C, IRS Form 8911) is closed; the IRS says "The credit will not be allowed for any property placed in service after June 30, 2026", and 13 utility home charger rebate programs are open (12 of the 25 largest US electric utilities by residential customers have one), along with 3 state programs.

Each program below links to its own page, which is where every amount here comes from. We read each one, record the sentences its amount and eligibility come from, and re-read every page each month. A program is listed as open only while the last monthly check still found those sentences on the page; otherwise it shows the date it was last confirmed.

Largest utilities with no home charger rebate we could find

We checked the 25 largest US electric utilities by residential customers, from the Annual Electric Power Industry Report, Form EIA-861, 2024 final data. These had no home charger purchase or installation rebate on the pages we read:

Which chargers qualify

2 open programs here require an ENERGY STAR certified charger (DTE and PSE&G). 147 Level 2 models in our catalog are ENERGY STAR certified, from the EPA product finder. 6 programs pay only for models on their own approved list (PG&E, Consumers Energy, LADWP, Eversource, Portland General Electric, and Charge Up New Jersey); we link those lists rather than guess which of our 240 Level 2 models are on them.

Rebate questions

Is the federal EV charger tax credit still available?
No. The IRS says "The credit will not be allowed for any property placed in service after June 30, 2026." Before that date it paid 30% of the cost, up to $1,000 per charging port at a main home in an eligible census tract. Checked October 5, 2026.
Which utilities offer a home EV charger rebate?
As of October 5, 2026, open utility programs we track: PG&E (California, up to $5,000), SCE (California, up to $4,200), ComEd (Illinois, up to $2,500), Georgia Power (Georgia, up to $150), DTE (Michigan, amount not published), PSE&G (New Jersey, up to $1,500), Pacific Power (Oregon, up to $1,500), Consumers Energy (Michigan, up to $1,000), LADWP (California, up to $1,500), Xcel Energy (Minnesota, up to $1,200), Xcel Energy (Colorado, up to $2,300), Eversource (Massachusetts, up to $1,700), and Portland General Electric (Oregon, up to $1,000). Most require enrolling in a time-of-use rate or managed charging program, and several are for income-qualified customers only.
Do I need an ENERGY STAR charger to get a rebate?
It depends on the program. Of the 16 open programs here, 2 require ENERGY STAR certification, 6 pay only for models on their own approved list, and the rest name no certification on their program page. 147 Level 2 models in our catalog are ENERGY STAR certified.
